Forestry and Wood Products

Forestry is 'big business' in Ohio.  The forest and wood products industry contributes more than $24 billion annually to the statewide economy.

Ohio's forest base is over 8 million acres.  Hardwoods make up 96 % of Ohio forest; oak and hickory are the predominant species followed by maple, beech and birch.  All state forests are FSC certified through 2020 as are many private timberlands.

The University of Rio Grande Fine Woodworking Program has a reputation as one of the best in the country.  Rio's Fine Woodworking alumni are recognized nationwide throughout the industry as highly skilled and innovate craftsmen.
