Gallia County has long enjoyed a rich heritage in the field of Education.
The University of Rio Grande/Rio Grande Community College (URG/RGCC) is a unique partnership between a public community college and a four-year comprehensive university. The University's contemporary 190 acre campus is located in Rio Grande, Ohio, nestled in the beautiful rolling hills of the Southeastern region of the state offering students the safety associated with a small town. The Rio Grande campus is an oasis of learning, innovation, and technology in the region.
More than 2,300 students, from 20 states and 14 countries, attend Rio Grande. Students enjoy a 16:1 student faculty ration, with more than 70 academic programs.
The institution's strengths lie in a faculty of teacher/scholars who are dedicated to both the academic and humanistic growth of every student; programs that are academically challenging and numerous opportunities for extracurricular involvement.
Rio Grande's mission is to maintain rigorous standards in its undergraduate, graduate, and adult education programs; to engage students from a wide spectrum of abilities and backgrounds while consistently preparing students for the challenges of living a fulfilling life, reaching career goals, and being a responsible citizen in a culturally diverse, global community.
The instructional program in the Gallipolis City Schools is designed to provide a learning environment that will promote social, emotional, physical and intellectual development. The district's mission is "to create a nurturing environment that enables each student to develop to the best of his/her abilities, the lifelong learning skills necessary to communicate clearly, to solve problems, to use technology effectively, to appreciate the arts and to meet the obligations of a productive citizen in a democracy."
The Gallipolis City School District has earned an "Excellent" rating by the Ohio Department of Education.
The Gallia County Local School District encompasses approximately 400 square miles in Gallia and Jackson counties. The system has a history of academic excellence. The school district is committed to supporting the social and academic growth of each student to reach his/her full potential.
The Ohio Valley Christian School (OVCS) provides an academically excellent, distinctively Christian education to students in the Tri-State area. OVCS has a legacy of academic excellence. Ninety percent of OVCS graduates attend a 4-year college or university. At OVCS students experience a Christ-centered education, a safe and secure education environment and a close knit Christian community of parents, teachers, and other students.
OVCS is recognized as a chartered, nonpublic school by the Ohio Department of Education and operates in accordance with the standards of the State of Ohio. OVCS is a member of the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI).
The Buckeye Hills Career Center is a career-technical education center, designed for high school students and adults. The training at BHCC is job specific and provides students with "real skills", through full time, short/part-time classes and programs. Custom training is also available for both business and industry.
Gallipolis Career College is an independent, private, two-year career college, locally owned and operated. GCC offers six associate degree and four diploma programs, and can design programs specifically to fit the needs of local businesses. Nationally accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent College and Schools, GCC presently serves almost 200 students, who live in the tri-county area.
